I’ve been receiving messages from my friends using Blogger.com (blogspot) as their blogging platform. They all have the same but one big issue, the clutter of pop up ads. Indeed, these unwanted ads are annoying both to the visitors and the blog owner. On the part of the visitor, they might be inflicted by malwares, spywares, viruses and other harmful programs due to visiting these sites especially if they don’t have enough security measures such as anti-virus and anti-spyware. On the other hand, on the part of the blogger, it’s a double black-eye. First, he/she might be affected by the previously mentioned PC threats and second, it would result to loss of valuable readers.
I know this is a serious problem that needs to be addressed. It’s no longer a joke. This is the reason why I searched the internet to get at least a close hypothesis regarding the root of this trouble. I opened my private blog written in blogspot so that I would have accessed the resources of blogger.com such as group discussions and support desks. Fortunately, I found this post under the Login Issues of Blogger Help Group.

Fine bloggers, There has been a decent amount of chatter recently from people who are
concerned about losing access to their blogs due to a malware Terms of
Service violation. While this is admittedly an imperfect system at the
moment, please understand that all of these efforts are in place with
the best of intentions. Malware is a very serious issue and our standards have to err a bit on
the side of caution for the sake of securing our users and our
service. It’s nothing personal we promise.
That being said, and after putting a good amount of thought into the
issue, we think it is only fair to give everyone a chance to clean up
their blogs. So here is the plan that we have come up with:
Step 1: Locate and remove malware from your template
My guess is that many of you folks have either custom templates or
third party gadgets, and the malware is somewhere within that code
that you copy and pasted into your template. -Open up the Html editor from either the Template | Edit Html or
Layout | Edit Html tab. -Select ‘Expand Widgets Templates’ to show all of the code. -Now comes the tricky part of pulling out the nefarious code.
Oftentimes, it is located at the bottom of the page so starting from
the bottom is a good idea. Look for things like <script> and <iframe>
tags that link out to third party URLs, stat counters, as well as
third-party javascript elements. Remove these items from your template
and then make sure to save it afterwards.
Step 2: Submit your cleaned up URL into the appeal form below:
https://spreadsheets.google.com/viewform?key=pZHHZdeYKeHgXlmtdMIRfbw&…
Step 3: Within 48 hours we will review your submission and, if it is
free of malware, go ahead and restore your blog. I will post a list of
restored URLs every other day at the following link: http://groups.google.com/group/blogger-help/web/restored-urls-from-ma…
This list is also located within the ‘Resources’ Section of the
Blogger Help Group. If you do not see your link after 48 hours, then you can assume that
the malware was not removed. You may then repeat the process and re-
submit, if you wish. Thanks for hanging in there everyone, -Gatsby

In can be noted on the post that a lot of malwares are attacking the blogger.com. As stipulated in Step 2, this could have been brought by third party codes (javascript and html codes) that we used to cut and paste on blog widgets. I recommend all of my fellow bloggers in blogger.com to give sufficient attention on this matter. Indeed, I will be sad to see your blog in the deleted lists due to these irritating popup ads.
Please, for the sake of our community in the blogosphere, spread this information.
Again, I sincerely appeal to all of you. If you really care for our blogspot friends, again, let’s spread the word..
Thanks,
Joliber

So nice of you to take some effort about all this pop ups attack, Joliber! I did removed all the 3rd party widgets like site counters, traffic feeds, popular pages and rank widgets. The unwanted pop ups indeed disappeared, hope it will be for good. Don’t worry I’ll help out in spreading the word, especially to those who are still bugged by these pop-ups…I will redirect them here to your site.

Hi Joliber, thank you for responding on this matter. It is really my concern to take out the pop ups in my blog. I followed the instructions you’ve posted here and I didn’t see any or encoded in my template. The only time I edited my html was when i tried the “Read More” or Expandable Post feature in my blog but that has been deleted already. I also tried deleting my Adsense and some logos I have posted recently. Unfortunately may pop ups pa rin :(… If you’ll visit my site you’ll notice that sometimes may pop ups, sometimes naman wala.
Hello Ate Lorie,
As per Ate Ellaine, she removed ger rank widgets (the pop up ads were consequently disappeared..) I see a rankwidget on your blog on the bottom of left side bar..
Try to remove that and let see what happens..
P.S. Don’t worry about the expandable post “Read More” code.. It doen’t produce the pop up ads..
Let me know if there are still problems..
i hope you supply us more of your useful infos.
kudos to joliber!
