Comments on blog posts are like stimulants that give extra energy and motivation for bloggers to continue posting contents. They are no different to basketball players who play inspired basketball when fans keep on cheering and yelling for them.
Having said that, getting a comment is not just as simple as picking a gold bar along the street, the same way it’s not that easy to gain a fan in basketball.
Of course, it takes time, effort and a lot of hard work.
Based on my experience, I had some posts that got at least 30 comments including my own responses. At the same time, I also had other posts that got 5 comments or less.
After analyzing the ins and outs of these results plus reading other’s blogs, I came up with my “Top 10 Reasons Why Some Posts Get No Comments”.
Here is my Top 10 list:
1) Post Gets No Exposure
a. I think this is obvious. If nobody sees your post, of course nobody can comment. The idea here lies on two factors, blog traffic and post visibility.
Blog Traffic. If you don’t have so much traffic, you should act now (try this one: How to win regular visitors on your blog in 10 ways?). In the first place no one is an island in the blogosphere.
Post Visibility. Granting you have a good web traffic, but if your post is not exposed to readers then you’re doing nothing. Put your valuable posts on the very popular place in your blog preferably on the front page or put some links in the top most part or sidebars if your post is in the inner pages. Archives and sitemaps would also help.
2) Poor Post Title
a. As I have said on my post (Write great posts and Get No readers), one of the best ways to get attention or readers for that matter is to have an eye-baiting title. I know, even you can attest to this. No matter how great your content is, if you’re primary driver (title / headline) leaves no power, then you would end up with a reader ignoring your post and go away.
3) Post sounds too perfect
a. In my case, if the writer says that such post contains “the complete solution or information”, then I assume the writer needs no feedback at all. In order to get comments, you must encourage your readers to participate. Just don’t tune your post to leave a voice that implies “exactness or completeness or sharpness of your ideas“. I think phrases like, “What about your idea?”, “Can you add some more?” and the likes give good intuition.
4) Post sounds too good to be true
a. I pertain to spam like posts. It’s very evident that no one likes spam because most of us hate them. My worry about this is, if your journalistic and marketing style go beyond the limits, then you’re readers might think you are a spammer or in other words scammer. I suggest that you should be honest and sincere on what you write. Avoid any spam like phrases such as “Read this Post and Get Millions of Comments”.
5) Post leaves no human interest
a. Are readers interested on what you post? Are you making sense whenever someone reads your content? Although there’s nothing wrong in making some unrelated stuffs sometimes with respect to your niche, but still such post must still in anyway bring interest to your readers. Humor-packed videos in most instances really appeal the blogosphere regardless of niche especially when they feel a little bit bored on what they do. It may be totally different to your topics but still entertains your readers.
6) Poor Post Lay-out
a. This is elementary but I myself has proven this. I usually don’t read post that are too long yet has poor post lay-out. For me, there’s no problem with a long post as long as it is pleasing to the eye. I like bulleted, numbered or segmented posts. I also prefer short paragraphs. What about you? (Just add on this ok?).
7) Comment Never on Other’s Blog
a. The problem with other blog is that, they feel lazy on reading and commenting on other’s post. If you really want to succeed in blogging, you should build good relationship with your fellow. One thing to do that is to continuously visit sites and write comments on posts that you think are valuable. If this is the case, you’ll have more friends and at the same time will have possible regular commenters.
8 – 10) I leave the final three (or even more) to all of you to complete the list. I know you have something in pocket that you want to share. Feel free to speak. The blogsophere is waiting for your ideas.

Nice post Joliber.Recently, I also wrote aa post about how to light a fire under a post, and I think that this post complements mine.
Also, I think that these *off topic* post need to be very good. If you write a post that it’s not related to your blog’s niche, for example: a post about fitness instead making money online, your readers will not comment because the difference between the topics is too big, and they could not be interested on other niche.
Mr. Javo’s last blog post..Should You Pay For eBooks?

Blog relationships are especially important for comments. If you always leave comments for others, most bloggers will leave comments for you.
Niche is important too. For me it isn’t too bad since it’s a personal blog. Whatever I say, even if it’s to advertise, if I were to put a part of myself to it, it’s considered personal. Only problem with personal sites is that you will end up with a broad spectrum of audiences that like different topics. So, you somehow have to satisfy all of them, which can be a daunting task.
I’d like to add a #8: Grammar. If you have great content but cannot write well, it will deter other people from reading as well. Sometimes I find myself going to the most un-original, boring of blogs - but if they presented it well, I am somehow able to like them better.
Ivy’s last blog post..Beauty Isn’t Worth Money, Honey
Hello Ivy.. Yeah you’re right, ideas must be presented very well to attract more readers..
Thanks for the item #8.
One way of gaining comments truly to comment on other’s blog. Its a give and take relationship.

Eat always? pinapataba mo ako lalo eh
I do agree on your post. Specially on the “eye-baiting title”. I have an entry which I really poured my time on yet it didn’t received any comments. I guess the title was not that good, plus it was a long entry and with long paragraphs. I somehow felt bad about it, though that happens… specially to those who are just starting.
Until now, I’m still exploring the blogosphere, specially now na parang tuyo ang utak ko at tinatamad magpost. hehe.
Though not all entries that didn’t receiveany comments (konti lang) doesn’t mean that it wasn’t/isn’t read… Sometimes readers just don’t know what to say o react.
Tessa’s last blog post..Girls vs. Grown Women
Yeah, the title must be catchy or an attention-getter.. yun kasi ang entry point eh..
number one for me is the number 2.
then number 7
keep blogging joliber and thanks for the comment.
redlan’s last blog post..Eta’s wedding ceremony @ Sta. Barbara church
Thanks for sharing your thoughts Redlan.. I appreciate it..
Some blog authors would prefer that their post be read, rather than commented upon. Maybe it has something to go with ego.
Some readers, though amazed and/or amused at near-perfect posts of certain bloggers, would prefer not to comment at all. The author may just be too intimidating for them, or maybe they just don’t want to spoil the post with their comments.
ceblogger’s last blog post..Comment On This Post And Get A Chance To Win 250 Entrecard Credits
That’s good point.. I think it falls under item #3..
i think it’s a friendly gesture to join in the discussion in the post entry and give your opinion. Even if it’s just a line, knowing that you took the time to actually read the entry and commenting makes the friendship grow fonder. hehehehhe agree??? you better ok! LOL
Farah’s last blog post..Down with flu!
Actually I agree Farah, lol, hahhahaa.. You got it right..
