If you are a blogger who actively visits other blogs, you are certainly familiar with the image above. Although there are some variations on the design (due to creativity of some graphic artists), this icon is basically the standard for RSS feeds. Although it is seen in millions of blogs out there, the awareness to its purpose is still vague to many. As a result, it is often mistaken as a standard static design in the sidebar, header or other parts of the site.
What is RSS Feeds?
RSS (Really Simple Syndication) as defined in Wikipedia is a family of web feed formats used to publish frequently updated content such as blog entries, news headlines, and podcasts. This web feed usually contains either excerpt or full text of syndicated contents.
What is the purpose of RSS Feeds?
The main purpose of RSS feeds is to easily inform the subscribers about the newly published content of a blog or website. This is done through email or in most cases through RSS readers like google reader, bloglines, myYahoo and many more.
